More than 150,000 people are expected to converge on Tampa this weekend as the annual Gasparilla Distance Classic Races take place. This event is one of several major activities scheduled in and around downtown Tampa.

The packet pickup for participants begins on Friday, February 21, at 10 A.M. at the Tampa Convention Center. The first races will start early Saturday morning at 6 A.M. on Bayshore Boulevard, with runners likely arriving beforehand. Sunday's races also commence at 6 A.M., with post-race celebrations set for 9 A.M. at Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park both days.

Despite the busy schedule, the Harbour Island bridges will remain open throughout the weekend.

In addition to the races, a concert at Amalie Arena, Fiesta Day in Ybor City, a Lightning game on Sunday, and shows at the Straz and Tampa Theatre are planned.

Drivers should anticipate delays and road closures near the racecourse and convention center areas. Caution is advised due to increased pedestrian traffic around event sites.

The Mobility Department suggests using alternate transportation options such as the free TECO Streetcar, DASH service, rentable scooters, or HART buses when possible. Early arrival is also recommended for attendees.
