The Tampa Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Council will continue its tradition of delivering "Canastas de Amor" (Love Baskets) to seniors in Tampa on Valentine's Day. This marks the fourth year of the initiative, which provides essential items to elderly residents.

This year's recipients are the residents of Mary Bethune Hi Rise Apartment Complex in Old West Tampa, where nearly 95 percent of residents are Hispanic. The council members have prepared 150 Love Baskets containing non-perishable food, personal care products, and socks for each apartment in the complex.

Mayor Jane Castor emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "With the rising cost of both groceries and personal items, it’s harder than ever for our elderly residents to make ends meet. These donations are a way to give back to our community and show our seniors that they are loved, supported, and never forgotten."

The event is sponsored by Vigo & Alessi, Dr. Christine Hernandez, North Tampa Housing Development Corporation, and Tampa Housing Authority. Additional support comes from New Bethel Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, Donna Parrino, and La Gaceta.

Media outlets have been invited to cover the basket deliveries on Valentine's Day. A member of the Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Council will be available for interviews in English and Spanish.
