A Tampa man, Denzel Ingram, has been indicted for possessing firearms as a convicted felon. The indictment was announced by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg. If found guilty, Ingram could face up to 15 years in federal prison. The indictment also includes a notice of intent from the United States to forfeit two firearms involved in the offense: a Shadow Systems firearm and a Smith & Wesson firearm.
The charges stem from an incident on or about June 23, 2024, when Ingram allegedly possessed the firearms despite knowing his status as a convicted felon. His previous convictions include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, throwing a deadly missile, and fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer. Under federal law, these convictions prohibit him from possessing firearms or ammunition.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation and does not imply guilt; defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Tampa Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Chang will prosecute the case.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. Launched on May 26, 2021, this initiative emphasizes trust-building within communities, support for community-based violence prevention organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and results measurement.
