The Tampa Convention Center has unveiled the first of three new art displays, beginning with a piece titled "Recurrence." This wave-shaped structure, located outside the center’s Central and West Exhibit Halls, mirrors the tides in Tampa. The City of Tampa commissioned this artwork, which is expected to attract many visitors.
The sculpture features 12 curvilinear aluminum channels equipped with LED lights. These lights change color to reflect the diurnal tidal cycle of Hillsborough Bay and Davis Island using data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Luftwerk Studio from Chicago designed "Recurrence" to bring elements of Tampa's natural environment into the convention space.
Two additional art installations are planned for completion by the end of this year. Alongside these artistic endeavors, other improvements at the Tampa Convention Center include new LED walls for enhanced digital signage and upgraded Exhibit Hall lighting that offers increased intensity and energy efficiency.
These upgrades follow a significant renovation project completed in 2023, which added 18 new waterfront meeting rooms and updated various facilities. The center is recognized for its scenic waterfront views and versatile event spaces spanning 600,000 square feet. It has received accolades such as the gold medal for Best Convention Center in the Southeast U.S. from The Stella Awards by Northstar Meetings Group in both 2023 and 2024.
The Tampa Convention Center collaborates with several companies to deliver quality services to event organizers. These partners include Aramark for food and beverage services, Edlen for utilities, Encore for audiovisual needs, Sentry Event Services for security, Smart City for internet and telecommunications, FedEx for shipping and branding solutions, and Xpodigital for digital signage.
