Tampa police release video of shooting involving officers

The Tampa Police Department has released body-worn camera footage from an officer-involved shooting that took place on February 4, 2025. The incident began when Matthew Fowler, a convicted felon, fired at officers. In response, one officer returned fire.

Fowler managed to escape the scene on foot but was later captured after a perimeter was established. His weapon, a Glock 9mm with an extended magazine, was found in a nearby dumpster.

Following the incident, Fowler faces several charges including two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of resisting an officer with violence, carrying a concealed firearm, being a felon in possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and loitering or prowling.
