Juvenile inmate recaptured after escape from detention center

On December 8, 2024, Jahmir Moore was apprehended in Tampa after escaping from a juvenile detention center. Moore now faces an additional felony charge of escape from a juvenile detention facility, alongside his previous charges.

According to the preliminary investigation, Moore and other inmates were outside in the fenced recreational area on December 8. During the headcount upon returning inside, it was discovered that Moore did not return with the group.

The Tampa Police Department initiated an immediate search once they were informed of Moore's absence. He was arrested around 9:15 p.m. on the 100-block of West Keyes Avenue by Tampa Police, assisted by the US Marshals Task Force.

Moore was initially detained on December 4, 2024, in connection with the death of Jevario Buie, aged 14. He was held at the Hillsborough Regional Juvenile Detention Center under the custody of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

After his capture, Moore is back in custody but has been transferred to another facility outside Hillsborough County. The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice plans to conduct a separate internal investigation regarding his escape.

The Tampa Police Department continues its active criminal investigation into this matter.
