In advance of what is expected to become Hurricane Helene impacting the Gulf Coast, the City of Tampa is opening sandbag distribution sites beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, September 24, at 8 a.m.
Sandbag operations will commence at three locations for senior residents and those needing extra assistance. Starting at noon on Tuesday, sandbags will be available to all residents until 7 p.m. Operations will resume for all residents from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25.
Please note that schedules may be adjusted depending on weather conditions.
Additional storm preparations are occurring citywide. Stormwater crews are actively clearing drainage systems to ensure maximum capacity, work that occurs year-round but is intensified ahead of storms. Solid Waste will work in the coming days to clear portions of the transfer station and Waste-to-Energy Plant to make room for potential post-storm debris, and in addition to working at sandbag locations, Parks & Recreation and other various city staff are preparing to potentially staff hurricane shelters.
Any media outlets requesting storm-related interviews are asked to email media@tampagov.net
