The Tampa Police Department has issued a traffic advisory regarding temporary road closures scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025. These closures are part of the 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run, supporting athletes competing in the Special Olympics of Florida.

Approximately 50 runners will participate, navigating through South Tampa and Downtown Tampa. The event will start at 9:00 AM at the Bayshore Gate of MacDill Air Force Base. Runners will travel north on Bayshore Boulevard to Interbay Boulevard and proceed to Ballast Point Park. They will then continue along Bayshore Boulevard, passing Bay to Bay Boulevard and the Tarpon Weigh Station, ultimately concluding at the Tampa Convention Center around noon.

Traffic safety and flow will be managed by the Tampa Police Motor Unit using a rolling roadblock system. This setup will temporarily stop traffic ahead of the runners, resuming once they have passed. Brief breaks will be taken at key points to allow runners to rest and enable traffic normalization.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution, patience, and, where possible, use alternate routes. They are also encouraged to support the runners during the Torch Run. Awareness of road closures and additional travel time is advised.

The public's cooperation in supporting this event, which benefits Special Olympics athletes, is appreciated.

For further information, contact the Tampa Police at their office on East Jackson Street or via phone at (813) 274-8211.
