The City of Tampa is set to commemorate Women's History Month with its 28th Annual Celebration on March 4, 2025. The event, which welcomes public attendance without charge, will take place at the Tampa Bay History Center.
During the celebration, Mayor Jane Castor will bestow the 2025 Josephine Howard Stafford Memorial Award upon City Clerk Shirley Foxx-Knowles. Foxx-Knowles has been an integral part of Tampa's leadership, serving as the 28th City Clerk under three successive mayors since her appointment in 2003. Her responsibilities include overseeing all administrative functions related to the Tampa City Council and ensuring the smooth operation of vital city boards.
"Shirley Foxx-Knowles has dedicated her career to public service with professionalism, integrity, and commitment to our city," stated Mayor Jane Castor. "Her leadership has helped shape the way Tampa’s government serves its residents, and it is an honor to recognize her with this award."
The Josephine Howard Stafford Memorial Award acknowledges a current or former female employee of the City of Tampa who exhibits exceptional dedication to her role and community. This accolade honors Josephine Howard Stafford, who was an Assistant City Attorney for 24 years and became Hillsborough County's first female judge.
