The Tampa Police Department has successfully recaptured 15-year-old Jahmir Moore, who escaped from custody earlier today. Moore was apprehended without incident shortly after 9:15 p.m. on the 100-block of West Keyes Avenue. The operation was conducted by Tampa Police with support from the US Marshals Task Force.
Chief Lee Bercaw expressed relief at Moore's capture, stating, "Tonight, the family of Jevario Buie and our community can rest knowing a dangerous individual is back in custody." He praised the officers' efforts since they were notified of Moore's escape and issued a warning to others considering evading law enforcement in Tampa.
Moore had been detained at the Hillsborough Regional Juvenile Detention Center under the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice following his arrest on December 4th, 2024. His charges are related to the death of 14-year-old Jevario Buie.
Surveillance footage from a nearby business showed Moore fleeing westward from the detention facility around 10:45 a.m. Sunday morning. The investigation remains active, and further details will be provided as they become available.
