Jonen Castillo, a 24-year-old resident of Orlando, Florida, has entered a guilty plea for smuggling goods from the United States. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg. Castillo is facing a potential sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison, although the sentencing date remains undecided.

The plea agreement reveals that in June 2023, Castillo concealed five firearms and nine firearm magazines inside record players and shipped them to an individual in Canada.

The investigation into this case was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Diane Hu is prosecuting the case.

This legal action falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department introduced a strategy to enhance PSN by emphasizing community trust, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and evaluating outcomes.
