With tropical storm watches now issued for the majority of the Tampa Bay area, the City of Tampa is urging residents to take precaution, finalize their plans, and prepare their properties in these critical days before severe weather impacts the area.
Having an emergency kit ready with food, water, and medicine for all members of the household, for at least three days, is strongly recommended. In addition, residents should clear any debris from gutters and around their property, as well as secure any loose patio furniture.
For properties, especially those in flood-prone areas, sandbags are available. Sandbagging sites are open Friday and Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Himes Avenue (4501 South Himes Avenue), Al Barnes Park (2902 North 32nd Street), and Al Lopez Park (4810 North Himes Avenue).
To stay informed about evacuation orders, flood notices, and other alerts, residents can text TAMPAREADY to 888-777. Spanish alerts are also available by texting TAMPALISTA to 888-777.
At this time, garbage collection schedules remain unchanged.
