The Tampa Convention Center team has announced the appointment of Abed Pompa as the new Chief Maintenance Engineer following a nationwide search. Pompa will play a critical role within the Facilities/Operations and Maintenance Department.

Pompa brings extensive experience to the position, having previously worked with large hospital facilities departments, including Tampa General Hospital. His qualifications include a Certified Mechanical Contractors License and an Associate in Arts degree in engineering. He is skilled in Building Automation Controls (BAS), HVAC, and building systems, and has been involved in training facilities personnel and developing technical operations procedures.

In his new role, Pompa will oversee the Maintenance, Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC/Chiller plant teams at the Tampa Convention Center.

The Tampa Convention Center recently completed a $44.5 million Capital Improvements Project in 2023, incorporating advanced technology into its infrastructure. Upgrades included comprehensive updates to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system with high-efficiency chillers, rebuilt pumps, and upgraded air handling units aimed at reducing energy consumption and costs for clients. Additional improvements featured converting elevators to cable pulley systems and installing LED lighting with occupancy sensors.

Pompa’s expertise is expected to be crucial in managing these new systems and overseeing future upgrades at the facility.
