On June 2, 2024, at approximately 11:47 a.m., Tampa police officers responded to the intersection of N 11 St and W Hillsborough Ave following reports of an overturned vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found two individuals in the overturned convertible: the driver, a black male in his late 70s, and the passenger, a black female in her late 70s.
The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Investigators determined that the vehicle was traveling westbound on E Hillsborough Ave in the inside lane near N 12th St when it veered from the left side of the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle came to rest on its roof after striking a utility pole just south of N 11th St.
"The driver did not exhibit signs of impairment," officials stated. Next of kin has been notified, and both subjects involved in the crash were known to each other.
The investigation is ongoing.
