The City of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc. (COTBHC) is hosting the 36th Annual City of Tampa Black History Celebration to recognize and honor the contributions of African Americans to Tampa's past, present, and future. The event, which takes place on February 16 at the Tampa Convention Center, will focus on the theme of "Family Unity: Rooted in Wisdom."
According to the COTBHC, this year's celebration aims to highlight the significance of family traditions, the resilience within family-owned businesses, and the importance of community service. The honorees for the event include Dr. Antoinette Jackson of the African American Burial Grounds & Remembering Project, Candy Lowe-Jones of the Black Business Bus Tour, Jack and Jill of America – Tampa Bay Chapter, Kiva Williams of the Mahogany Kids Fine Arts Foundation, and Norma Robinson of the Sulphur Springs Museum.
Dalia Dangerfield, Bay News 9 Anchor/Reporter, will serve as the mistress of ceremonies for the event. Kiva Williams, founder of the Mahogany Kids Fine Arts Foundation, will deliver the keynote address. The celebration will also feature poetry by J. Jackson.
