Tampa, FLA.- Divers with the Tampa Police Department have recovered the body of Curtis Lee Cowling, the missing boat captain, from a submerged vessel. Cowling, who lived on the boat, was last seen on Saturday night around 11:00 pm. Chief Lee Bercaw expressed his condolences, stating, "Although our Dive Team members, joined by multiple agencies, all worked tirelessly in their efforts, we now share in the sorrow of this tragic outcome. Our thoughts and concerns are with the family and friends of Captain Cowling during this difficult time."

The incident began when officers responded to the Shrimp Docks located at 2625 Causeway Blvd after receiving a report about a 63-foot vessel that had sunk. It was suspected that the captain might still be on board. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the vessel was completely underwater, and a significant amount of fuel was leaking, leading to a HAZMAT situation. The United States Coast Guard is now leading the efforts for the fuel clean-up process.

The cause of Curtis Lee Cowling's death is still under investigation. However, authorities have stated that there are no signs of foul play.
