From March 21, 2023 post.
Today, March 21, is World Down Syndrome Day. Today is about a lot of things.
It is about those with Down Syndrome - people who are entitled to our respect, social dignity and enrich our lives.
It's about hard working families - Moms and Dads and Grandparents raising children with Down Syndrome, who know what it is like to beam with pride when your child gets that adult job, wants to maybe go out with friends and becomes more independent. No step for that child is taken without amazing and relentless effort and love from the family.
More anything, it's about the principle and value that every person counts. Everybody should have a place at the table, and that includes those with Down Syndrome and their families and caretakers. That means respect socially and culturally and dignity with jobs, training, our schools, health care and housing.
