On March 24, 2025, the Tampa Police Department apprehended Rilyn Notbohm, a 15-year-old student at Plant High School, for allegedly making a threat online. Notbohm reportedly posted a message on social media stating, "That's it, I'm shooting my school up." The event occurred around 11:00 p.m. on the same day.

Notbohm admitted to the post during police questioning, explaining that it was made in a moment of frustration following a dispute with a friend. As a result, she has been charged with a felony for making a written or electronic threat to conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism.

Regarding the incident, Chief Lee Bercaw stated, "Anyone who thinks making a ‘joke’ about shooting up a school is harmless is gravely mistaken. We take the safety of our students and staff extremely seriously. I want to thank the community for promptly reporting threats and working with our dedicated officers and detectives to help keep our children safe."

The police department urges anyone with information about school-based threats to contact them immediately through 911 or the non-emergency line at 813-231-6130. Tips can also be submitted via Fortify FL.
