The City of Tampa is organizing an event aimed at connecting local construction firms with subcontracting opportunities through its Job Order Contracting (JOC) program. The Bridges to Business JOC Info Session and Networking event will be held on Monday, April 14, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hanna Avenue City Center.

For the first time, the city is specifically encouraging residential contractors to participate. In February, Tampa City Council approved an $11.4 million contract to start the Residential Rehabilitation and Repair JOC Program. This program involves six firms as prime contractors, allowing the city to collaborate with qualified residential subcontractors for essential home repairs for low-income homeowners across Tampa.

“Our goal is to open doors for more local businesses while ensuring our most vulnerable residents have homes that are safe, functional, and built to last,” stated Mayor Jane Castor.

In addition to residential work, the city seeks commercial subcontractors for its current JOC program focused on small to medium-sized municipal projects. The projects include various tasks such as electrical and plumbing repairs, flooring, interior and exterior painting, and landscaping and irrigation.

Representatives from different city departments, including Purchasing, Housing and Community Development, Equal Business Opportunity, Logistics and Asset Management, and Economic Opportunity, will be present to answer questions, provide guidance, and support networking.

Participants will have the opportunity to register for city bid notifications and receive assistance in initiating or completing their small business certification applications.
