U.S. Representative Kathy Castor, who has been serving Florida's 14th district since 2007, recently shared her views on national defense and community recovery efforts via social media. Her comments reflect concerns about leadership in national security and highlight local community initiatives.

On March 24, 2025, Rep. Castor criticized the current state of U.S. national defense leadership. She expressed her concern over what she perceives as "incompetence among top national defense officials," stating that it "weakens our national security and emboldens our adversaries." The post further emphasized her view by describing the situation as "staggering ineptitude." "Amateur hour! Incompetence among top national defense officials weakens our national security and emboldens our adversaries. The ineptitude is staggering."

In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Rep. Castor attributed some of these issues to decisions made by Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump, specifically regarding military leadership changes. She noted that experienced military commanders were dismissed, suggesting that this has had negative repercussions: "Musk/Trump fired experienced, nonpartisan military commanders , now we’re paying the price …"

The following day, March 25, 2025, Rep. Castor shifted focus to commend local efforts in her community of Bay Crest for their response to natural disasters. She praised six women from the neighborhood for their immediate action in helping communities recover from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Their contributions included ensuring access to essential resources such as food and clean water: "My Bay Crest neighbors immediately stepped up to help our communities recover from Hurricanes Helene and Milton."
