The Tampa Police Department is conducting investigations into two separate deaths of individuals found in the waters near the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Detectives are working to identify both individuals and inform their families.
On November 17, 2024, officers discovered the body of a deceased black male, believed to be in his mid-teens. The police reported no visible signs of trauma on the body.
Another individual was found on the morning of November 19, 2024. This person is identified as an adult Hispanic male, estimated to be in his early-to-mid-30s. Similar to the previous case, there were no apparent signs of trauma.
Police state that although these investigations are still at an early stage, there is no indication that the incidents are related or involve foul play. The Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official causes of death.
The National Weather Service has issued a high rip current risk advisory for Tampa Bay. People planning activities near or in the water are advised to exercise caution and avoid swimming during periods with strong currents and high surf.
