Tampa's newest Veterans Plaza will be unveiled today. It is the second of three new veterans memorials to be constructed in a Tampa park, bringing the city closer to its goal of having a Veterans Plaza or memorial in each of the four City Council districts.

"Tampa has a deep and proud connection to our military, and as home to MacDill Air Force Base, so many families in our community hold the legacy of service close to their hearts," said Mayor Jane Castor. "The planning, construction, and dedication of this memorial plaza stand as a lasting tribute to that bond and the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families."

This project at Port Tampa Park took just over a year from design through construction to its dedication today. Part of the design included improvements to the drainage system around the Plaza, allowing water to move more efficiently off the street and sidewalk.
