The US Marshals Task Force, in collaboration with the Tampa Police Department, has arrested Brianna Moore, 19, in connection with the death of an infant found at the University of Tampa earlier this year. The arrest took place on October 18, 2024, in Quitman, Mississippi.
The investigation began when university safety employees were alerted to a possible miscarriage on campus property. This led to the discovery of a deceased infant identified as Moore's child. An autopsy revealed that the infant died from asphyxia and multiple rib fractures, and the death was ruled a homicide.
Moore faces charges including Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child, Child Neglect with Great Bodily Harm, Failure to Report Death, and Unlawful Storage of Human Remains. She is currently held at Lauderdale County Jail in Mississippi awaiting extradition to Tampa.
Florida's Safe Haven Law allows parents to anonymously surrender unharmed newborns up to 30 days old at designated locations without facing charges unless there are signs of abuse or neglect.
