The City of Tampa is hosting an interactive training session designed to empower neighborhood associations and crime watch groups.

On Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 9 AM to 2 PM, local volunteers and aspiring community leaders are invited to the City Center at Hanna Avenue, located at 2555 East Hanna Avenue. The City of Tampa will offer its first-ever Board Leadership and Governance training, providing practical guidance on how to successfully run a volunteer nonprofit organization. This training is part of Mayor Jane Castor’s Neighborhood University Saturday Sessions, where residents can learn about city services and departments each month.

“Our city’s strength lies in our communities,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “By equipping local leaders with the skills they need, we’re ensuring that every neighborhood thrives and has a voice at the table. This training is a step toward a more unified and engaged Tampa.”

The program will be hosted by the City of Tampa Community Engagement and Partnership Department.

"We are committed to strengthening our communities by providing valuable resources and training to those who lead them," said Janelle H. McGregor, Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships. "Our goal is for participants to walk away with the confidence and competence to build stronger, more inclusive organizations.”

The session will be led by Dr. John Loblack, a certified expert in team building, leadership development, and nonprofit management. With years of experience, Dr. Loblack will provide hands-on training to help attendees develop their leadership and communication skills.

The event is free and open to the public, with lunch provided for registered participants.

To attend, register by September 26, 2024, at tampa.gov/SaturdaySession.
