The highly anticipated military capabilities demonstration at SOF Week is set to return to the Tampa Convention Center, with the event scheduled to take place from May 6-10. As reported by the event organizers, the demonstration will showcase the military operations of 10 different nations by land, air, and sea, featuring helicopters, drones, and ships. The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) will host the "Battle in the Bay" Capabilities Demonstration on Wednesday, May 8 at noon.
According to the announcement, the public is invited to view the demonstration from various designated locations, such as along the Tampa Riverwalk, Bayshore Boulevard, Harbour Island Bridge, and venues like Jackson’s Bistro on Harbour Island. However, organizers advise that the event will include loud noises like mock gunfire and potentially disturbing visual imagery, recommending attendees to use ear protection.
In addition to the military demonstration, SOF Week will engage in community projects aimed at giving back. Attendees will have the opportunity to assemble bags of essential hygiene items for homeless individuals in Tampa. Moreover, the Global Special Operations Forces Foundation (GSOF) is launching a new initiative, GSOF Gives Back, to support charities and nonprofits that aid the SOF Community.
The event is expected to draw over 16,000 attendees to Tampa, including military and government representatives from nearly 80 nations, with an estimated economic impact of more than $12 million for the city. With such a significant turnout, drivers are advised to anticipate additional traffic around the Tampa Convention Center during the event. Furthermore, the Tampa Convention Center Parking Garage will be closed from May 5 to May 9.
