The City of Tampa is gearing up to relaunch its popular eBike Voucher Program, with an exciting kick-off event scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024. This program, which was a hit last year, is returning with even more to offer thanks to increased funding. Mayor Jane Castor highlighted the benefits of eBikes by stating, "With more than 130 miles of bike lanes in Tampa, and many more on the way, there has never been a better time to try out an eBike."
The eBike Voucher Program is an application-based initiative that provides participants with the opportunity to receive up to $3,000 off the purchase of a new eBike from select bike shops. Notably, this program is not a free bike giveaway but rather a chance for individuals to access discounted eBikes. Last year, close to 200 eBike vouchers were awarded, and this year, the program has been expanded to include 260 vouchers.
To accommodate the high demand, the program will be split into two rounds for Spring and Fall 2024. The first round of applications is currently open until Friday, March 15, with sign-ups available online or in person at designated locations. Applicants must be City of Tampa residents aged 18 and above and are required to present a signed purchase quote from a participating bike shop to qualify.
Winners of the eBike Voucher Program will receive vouchers ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, depending on their income level. Recipients can choose between Class 1 and Class 2 eBikes, with adaptive eBikes also being an option for individuals with specialized needs.
In addition to the kick-off event on March 5, the City of Tampa has organized eBike Rodeo events on March 13 and 14 at different locations for community members to test ride eBikes and learn more about the program. For further information, individuals are encouraged to visit the City of Tampa Mobility Department webpage.
