Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) has announced her vote in favor of the impeachment articles filed against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In a statement released today, Rep. Laurel Lee criticized Secretary Mayorkas for failing to uphold his oath of office and for disregarding the laws of the nation.
"Secretary Mayorkas has defied his oath of office to protect our homeland since he was sworn in 3 years ago, refusing to follow the laws of our nation, which is an abuse of power and breach of public trust," said Rep. Laurel Lee.
One of the main concerns raised by Rep. Laurel Lee is the issue of illegal immigration and the influx of fentanyl across the borders. She believes that this situation poses a significant threat to national security and demands immediate action.
"The mass number of illegal immigrants and fentanyl crossing over our borders has posed a grave danger to our national security, and Americans have had enough," Rep. Laurel Lee stated.
By voting in favor of impeachment, Rep. Laurel Lee believes that Congress is fulfilling its duty to provide oversight and accountability.
"Congress's job is to conduct oversight and to provide accountability—that is why I voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas," she asserted.
The impeachment articles filed against Secretary Mayorkas outline two main allegations. The first article accuses him of "willfully and systematically refusing to comply with Federal immigration laws." The second article highlights a "breach of public trust."

The decision to support the impeachment of a high-ranking government official is a significant one. Rep. Laurel Lee's vote reflects her conviction that Secretary Mayorkas has failed to fulfill his duties and responsibilities. As the impeachment process moves forward, it remains to be seen how other members of Congress will respond to these allegations and whether they will join Rep. Laurel Lee in calling for Secretary Mayorkas's removal from office.
