The City Center at Hanna Avenue is hosting a special event called "Meet the Artist" to celebrate art and community. The event will feature Nneka Jones, the artist behind a Tampa-inspired piece displayed in the center's lobby. Jones worked with community members in East Tampa to create the artwork through embroidery, teaching them the skill and involving them in the process.

"The piece now serves as a sense of pride for the nearby residents who contributed to the finished product," says the City of Tampa YouTube video titled "How Embroidery Is Changing a Community."

The "Meet the Artist" event is scheduled for December 14 from 10 am to 11 am. It offers attendees an intimate look into the Tampa-inspired artwork and the vision behind it. The City Center at Hanna Avenue, a $108 million project, stands as a symbol of community integration and opportunity. The project, led by DPR Construction, achieved an impressive 35% equal business opportunity goal, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and local economic growth.

Construction on the City Center began in January 2022 and opened to the public on September 20, 2023. The event will take place at 2555 East Hanna Avenue, and those interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance to reserve their seat. Light snacks will be served.

Nneka Jones, the artist, has gained recognition for her artistic journey, with prestigious publications like Times and Forbes magazines taking notice. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with Jones and learn more about her work.

Media outlets are also invited to attend the event and have the chance to interview Jones. RSVPs for media attendees are requested to be sent to media@tampagov.net.
