On December 9th, 2023, Derrick Brooks Charities Youth Program will host its annual “Earl Silas Bridging the Gap Event”, at Springhill Park and Community Center.

Tampa police officers, along with several other first responders, will participate in multiple activities such as kickball, a 3-point shoot-out, free-throw contest, and more.

"The Earl Silas Bridging the Gap event is an incredible way for the community to come together and build positive relationships with police officers," said Chief Lee Bercaw. "We are proud to be a part of this event and hope that members of our community join us for an amazing Saturday."

"We want to create an atmosphere where people feel safe and comfortable talking to our officers," added Deputy Chief Johnson. "By using sports-themed environments to create opportunities for interaction, we hope this event will help us continue building trust and relationships within our community, especially with the local kids."

Master Patrol Officer Gig Brown will be available for media upon request at the Tampa Police Headquarters, starting at 12:00 p. m. For more information regarding this event contact (813)274-3315.
