Congresswoman Laurel Lee of Florida participated in a House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy hearing focused on electricity demand and grid reliability. The hearing, titled "Scaling For Growth: Meeting The Demand For Reliable, Affordable Electricity," took place in Washington, D.C.

During the session, Rep. Lee emphasized the importance of maintaining a reliable and affordable electric power system. She highlighted its significance for national security, economic stability, and community well-being. Rep. Lee noted that Florida is the second largest producer of electricity in the United States. She pointed out that the state's rapid population growth, increased manufacturing activities, and technological advancements are contributing to rising electricity demand.

"It is imperative that our electric grid is prepared to meet this growing demand for power," she stated. "Our generation and transmission systems must be reliable and resilient, with the ability to ensure continuous power supply and respond quickly to unforeseen circumstances and changes in demand."

Rep. Lee expressed her anticipation for discussing current challenges in the electricity sector with witnesses at the hearing and exploring how Congress can address these issues effectively.
