The City of Tampa has announced changes to its garbage collection schedule in observance of the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays. City offices will be closed on December 24 and 25, 2024, as well as January 1, 2025.

Residential garbage collection services will not be affected by these closures. On Christmas Eve, Tuesday collections will proceed as usual. As residential collection does not occur on Wednesdays, there will be no impact on services for both Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Regular collection schedules will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Commercial garbage collection services will experience a slight delay during the holiday weeks. For the Christmas holiday, normal service is scheduled for December 24, while the service for December 25 will shift to December 26. Commercial collections during this week will operate with a one-day delay until Saturday, December 28. Similarly, for New Year's Week, collections normally scheduled for January 1 will take place on January 2 and continue with a one-day delay through Saturday, January 4. Commercial customers using a cart should adhere to the residential schedule.

The McKay Bay Transfer Station and Scale House at 114 S. 34th Street will also observe holiday closures. It will close from December 24 to December 25 and reopen from December 26 through December 30. For New Year's observance, it closes at noon on December 31 and remains closed on January 1 before resuming normal hours on January 2.

Additionally, the city offers curbside Christmas tree collection starting January 2 without extra charges. Residents are required to remove decorations and lights from trees and prepare them according to guidelines before placing them curbside.

For questions or concerns regarding these changes, residents can contact the City of Tampa Utilities Call Center at (813) 274-8811 or visit their website at www.tampagov.net/solidwaste.

New Tampa residents should reach out to Hillsborough County Solid Waste Management at (813) 272-5680 for their specific holiday collection schedule.
