The City of Tampa, in collaboration with the Martin Luther King Parade Foundation, Inc., is preparing to honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through its annual MLK Parade and associated events. The upcoming parade will feature new entries from across Florida and the Caribbean, alongside performances by notable bands such as the Bethune-Cookman Marching Wildcats and Edward Waters University Triple Threat Marching Band.
An expansion of the MLK Foundation's scholarship program will also be announced, aimed at increasing educational opportunities for Hillsborough County high school students. This initiative aligns with Dr. King's vision of promoting equity through education.
The theme for this year's event is “Strength to Love,” reflecting Dr. King's message of compassion for those in need. Organizations like Metropolitan Ministries and Sulphur Springs YMCA will be recognized for their contributions to this cause.
Les Miller, a former state representative and Hillsborough County commissioner, has been named Grand Marshal of the parade. Sponsors include Florida Blue and TECO among others, with media support from 101.5 The Vibe.
Media interviews with MLK Parade Foundation leadership are scheduled for December 16 at 11:30 a.m., following an official announcement.
The community is invited to participate in celebrating Dr. King’s legacy on January 20, 2025.
