Congresswoman Laurel Lee has announced that Tampa International Airport will receive new security screening equipment. This development follows her request to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for additional Checkpoint Property Screening Systems (CPSS). The funding is part of the airport's terminal expansion project, which includes reconstructing and expanding TSA security checkpoints at Airsides A and E. The completion date for this project is set for July 2025.
In July, Congresswoman Lee sent a letter to the TSA requesting funds for new full-size screening equipment as part of the expansion. Recently, TSA confirmed in a letter to Congresswoman Lee that Tampa International Airport will indeed receive the CPSS equipment.
"Around 25 million passengers make their way through Tampa International Airport (TPA) every year. I am pleased to announce that we were able to secure funding for brand-new, full-size security equipment at TSA checkpoints at Tampa International," said Congresswoman Laurel Lee. "These new installations will make traveling through TPA easier and safer than ever, which is especially important as tourism in and around the Tampa Bay Area continues to grow."
