Mayor Jane Castor, along with Tampa City Council members, Skanska leadership, and community members, will gather to celebrate a significant construction milestone at the East Tampa Recreational Complex/Fair Oaks site. This event marks the "topping out" of the new recreation center.
The milestone involves the installation of 270 pre-cast pieces that form the structural frame and walls of the 33,055-square-foot facility. The $34.7 million project spans 10.25 acres in East Tampa and includes various amenities such as a dedicated space for seniors, a turf athletic field, walking trails, basketball courts, pickleball courts, an outdoor playground with ADA-compliant features, and an interactive splash pad.
The new center will replace the existing community center at Fair Oaks Park and will offer facilities like a gymnasium, weight room, computer lab, maker space, music room, flex space, multi-purpose rooms that can be used individually or combined, a billiards room, and an art room.
Construction began on April 12 and is projected to conclude in Fall 2025 for the recreation center itself. The entire complex is expected to be completed by Spring 2026.
