Tampa city officials are set to highlight the role of the Community Investment Tax (CIT) in enhancing public safety operations and resources. On National First Responders Day, October 28, Mayor Jane Castor will be joined by City Council Chairman Guido Maniscalco, Police Chief Lee Bercaw, and Fire Chief Barbara Tripp for this event.

The gathering will showcase emergency vehicles from the Tampa Police Department and Tampa Fire Rescue. These vehicles played a significant role during Hurricanes Helene and Milton and were partially funded through CIT revenue.

Video footage showing first responders utilizing their equipment during Hurricane Milton is available on the social media platforms of both Tampa Police and Tampa Fire Rescue.

Since its inception in 1996, the CIT has been instrumental in funding public safety resources as well as infrastructure, parks, schools, and transportation projects across Hillsborough County. Media representatives will learn about how this funding has supported Tampa’s emergency services in serving residents effectively.
