Tampa, FL (October 25, 2024) - The Tampa Police Department, in collaboration with the Ybor City Historic District business community, is set to host "Ybor Night Out: A Time of Remembrance and Resilience" on Tuesday, October 29th, 2024. This event marks the anniversary of the tragic shooting that occurred on October 29, 2023.

The purpose of Ybor Night Out is to honor the victims of last year's incident and demonstrate Tampa's commitment to safety. It also aims to foster connections between the police department, residents, visitors, and local businesses.

“This event is meant to serve as a powerful symbol of unity,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “A reminder that Tampa is a safer place and a closer community when we stand together.”

The evening will commence at 6:30 pm with a candlelight vigil in memory of Harrison Boonstoppel and Elijah Wilson at 1920 Ybor City on E. 7th Ave. Attendees will receive blue LED bracelets following the vigil while participating businesses will light their windows with blue candles.

Members of the Tampa Police Department, including K9 and equestrian officers, will then walk along 7th Ave., engaging in conversations and building relationships with attendees and local businesses. This initiative aims to strengthen community bonds in Tampa.
