The City of Tampa has initiated a two-year project to update its Land Development Code (LDC) with the aim of making it more user-friendly and adaptable to the city's growth. The project, titled "Tampa Forward: Building Tomorrow Together," seeks to revise regulations governing land use and development within the city.
Key objectives of this initiative include restructuring the LDC for better clarity, incorporating visual aids such as photos and diagrams, using precise language to reduce ambiguity, and establishing enhanced development standards like tree planting and landscaping requirements.
The updated LDC is expected to address various aspects from historic building preservation to housing options and walkability improvements. Public input is sought for these changes. A Public Kickoff Meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 16, where residents can provide feedback and engage in the process.
"It is vital we have participation from our City of Tampa residents throughout the update of our LDC," said Abbye Feeley, interim administrator for Development and Economic Opportunity. "As we develop a code that can meet the demands of our growing city, the public's participation will ensure the update will make Tampa a better place for our residents, a better place to do business, and a place where all our neighborhoods can thrive."
Residents are encouraged to take a survey on the current LDC and register for the Public Kickoff Meeting. The meeting will be held at City Center at Hanna Avenue from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM, with doors opening at 6:30 PM. A virtual attendance option will also be available.
