Luis Miguel Plaza, a 33-year-old resident of Orlando, has pleaded guilty to charges of distributing and possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute. United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced the plea. Plaza faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years in federal prison, with the possibility of life imprisonment. A sentencing date is yet to be determined.

Court documents reveal that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) employed an undercover agent and confidential informants to make multiple controlled purchases from Plaza. During two transactions in August 2023 and January 2024, Plaza sold over 1,100 pills weighing approximately 115 grams, containing fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl, an analogue of fentanyl. In February 2024, another transaction was arranged by a confidential informant which led to Plaza's arrest. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of over 7,000 pills weighing approximately 750 grams containing both substances.

The DEA conducted the investigation into this case. Assistant United States Attorney Diane Hu is prosecuting.
