Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Laurel Lee (R-FL) released a statement following the House of Representatives' vote on H. Res. 1367, which establishes a Task Force to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump.

“The security failures that occurred on July 13, which allowed for an assassination attempt on President Trump, could have been prevented. Congress has a responsibility to conduct oversight to provide accountability and transparency for the events that occurred that day,” said Rep. Laurel Lee. “This bipartisan task force will help us find the facts and ensure such failures like this never happen again.”

The Task Force will possess all investigative authority of the House of Representatives, including subpoena power.

The objectives of the Task Force are threefold:

1. To understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination.

2. To ensure accountability.

3. To prevent such agency failures from recurring.

The Task Force is expected to make recommendations for reform to relevant government agencies and suggest any necessary legislation to implement these reforms.

A resolution establishing the Task Force and its members will be voted on by the House this week. The task force will consist of seven Republicans and six Democrats.
