TAMPA, FL. (July 18, 2024) -- An officer of the Tampa Police Department has been placed on administrative leave following an arrest for battery domestic violence.

Cornelius Young was arrested in an off-duty incident at 729 Cortaro Drive in Sun City on July 17, 2024, following a reported verbal argument with an adult female victim known to him that turned physical. The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the altercation.

“To say this is disappointing is an understatement,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “Our thoughts are with the victim involved. We are committed to transparency with our internal investigation. The allegations don’t represent the mission of the Tampa Police Department.”

Young, employed with TPD since November 2023, was immediately relieved of his duties.

He will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into this incident.
