Tampa, Florida, May 6, 2024 - The Tampa Convention Center is set to host a thrilling military showcase presented by the U.S. Special Operations Command, featuring a demonstration of capabilities that will include explosions, simulated gunfire, and low-flying helicopters. The event, known as the "Battle of the Bay," is part of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) Week annual conference and will take place on Wednesday, May 8, from 12 P.M. to 1 P.M.

According to the U.S. Special Operations Command, the "Battle of the Bay" will involve more than 170 United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and international service members from 10 nations in a mock scenario defending the City of Tampa from "hostile invaders." Various military assets such as helicopters, boats, drones, ATVs, and scuba divers will be part of the demonstration, providing spectators with a close-to-real-life experience of a mission.

A noise advisory has been issued for the downtown Tampa area surrounding the Convention Center, with attendees advised to consider wearing hearing protection due to the loud noises expected during the showcase. Additionally, there will be traffic disruptions on May 7 and May 8 from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. around the Convention Center, with specific road closures and detours in place.

For those planning to attend, the best viewing spots for the showcase are recommended to be higher vantage points like the Harbour Island Bridge, although the demonstration will also be visible from areas around the Convention Center, Riverwalk, and Bayshore Blvd. As the event is expected to draw over 16,000 attendees and have a significant economic impact, the City of Tampa will present a public proclamation prior to the showcase on Wednesday.

Television stations and media outlets interested in covering the event are encouraged to contact USSOCOM Public Affairs for parking arrangements and to RSVP by email by 12 P.M. on May 6. The media will have the opportunity to interview participants after the demonstration.

The military showcase promises to be an exciting and immersive experience for all attendees, showcasing the tactical prowess and capabilities of the U.S. Special Operations Command in a unique and engaging manner.
