Tampa Police responded to a concerning situation at New Springs Charter School on May 2, 2024, where several students fell ill after consuming unidentified candy. According to reports, eleven children between the ages of nine and eleven experienced symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, lethargy, and numbness in their legs and arms.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with suspicions that one of the students may have brought the candy to school. Detectives are actively working to determine the source of the candy and how it came into the possession of the children.

In light of this incident, Tampa Police offered safety tips for parents to ensure the well-being of their children. They advised parents to teach their kids to always seek permission before consuming any unfamiliar food items and to have age-appropriate conversations about the potential dangers of consuming unknown substances that resemble everyday candy.

Additionally, parents were reminded that if they suspect their child has ingested THC-infused products, they should contact Poison Control at 800.222.1222 or consult their child's medical provider immediately.

The authorities have assured that none of the students suffered serious injuries, with three being taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary evaluations. The investigation into the incident is ongoing to ascertain the origin and distribution of the unidentified candy.
