The Tampa Police Department is set to host its Annual Memorial Ceremony on May 1, 2024, to honor the fallen officers. Mayor Jane Castor and Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw, along with the Tampa Police Memorial Committee, will lead the tribute in front of the Monument to Fallen Officers at One Police Center.
During the ceremony, various tributes will be paid, including a 21-Gun Salute, a Riderless Horse, and performances by the St. Andrew's Pipes & Drums of Tampa Bay. Additionally, a flyover by the Tampa Police Aviation Unit will take place to commemorate the fallen officers.
"We honor our thirty-two fallen officers, and all those across the nation, who lost their lives in the performance of their duties," said the Tampa Police Department.
The event is open to the public, and for those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be live-streamed on the Tampa Police Department's Facebook page.
Reflecting on the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial shared that more than 23,000 U.S. law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice since 1786, including the thirty-two officers from the Tampa Police Department being honored at the Memorial Ceremony.
The Tampa Police Department encourages community members to join them in paying respects to the fallen officers and their families during this solemn occasion.
