The Tampa Convention Center is gearing up for a busy period from March 13 to March 17, 2024, as two major events are set to take place. The Florida State Thespian Festival and the Molten Florida Pre-Qualifier volleyball tournament will be held during this time, attracting thousands of attendees and athletes to the city.
According to the official announcement, the Florida State Thespian Festival is expected to bring in 7,600 attendees, while the Molten Florida Pre-Qualifier volleyball tournament will draw around 4,000 athletes and spectators. Speaking about the events, it was noted that drivers should be prepared for increased traffic in Downtown Tampa near the convention center during these dates and advised to plan extra time for their commute.
In light of the expected congestion, Tampa Police will be deployed at crosswalks to help manage traffic flow and assist with pedestrian crossings. The events are also anticipated to have a significant economic impact on the City of Tampa, with an estimated total of over $9.1 million dollars.
Event attendees were advised that ongoing wastewater pipeline construction has resulted in the closure of Franklin Street at Channelside Drive. To avoid this closure, those driving to the events were instructed to head directly to the Tampa Convention Center parking garage at 141 East Brorein Street or utilize additional parking at the Pam Iorio Parking Garage on Channelside Drive.
For drop-off and pick-up, including for ADA and rideshare services, designated spots are available in front of Harpoon Harry's Crab House at 225 S. Franklin St. in Tampa. It is important to note that these events are private and restricted to registered participants and spectators.
As the city prepares for the influx of visitors and participants, the Tampa Convention Center remains focused on ensuring a smooth experience for all involved.
