ST. PETERSBURG, FL – While celebrating Juneteenth in St. Petersburg, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL-14) announced $298,347 will be awarded to the Woodson African American Museum of Florida in St. Petersburg through the Museum Grant for African American History and Culture (AAHC) from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

"Black history is all of our history," said Rep. Castor, "I am thrilled the Woodson African American Museum is being awarded this funding so it can continue to be a pillar of education and culture throughout the St. Petersburg community and those who visit Florida."

"The Woodson African American Museum of Florida remains committed to our mission to preserve, present, celebrate and educate others on the too often untold contributions of African Americans in building and shaping the United States throughout history," said Teri Lipsey Scott, "We are grateful for the continued support of Congresswoman Castor as she helps support our goals.”

The Woodson African American Museum will develop an interpretive plan for the permanent exhibit in its new facility. Museum staff will partner with a content developer, an exhibit designer, a media designer, and an evaluator to create the plan. Project activities include visits to related exhibits, research on African American history, art, and culture in Pinellas County, collections research, development of interpretive themes and design options, audience testing, and advisory committee charrettes. An advisory group with experience in creating exhibitions of African American art, culture and history, as well as focus groups with members of the African American community, will help guide the work.
