The East Tampa Community Redevelopment Area's (ETCRA) Public Safety Subcommittee has announced its plans to install a crosswalk art mural at the intersection of 34th Street and Cayuga Street. The East Tampa CRA and City of Tampa Mobility staff support the project and helped identify the location as one that requires safety enhancements to protect the most vulnerable roadway users, particularly school children crossing the road at nearby Potter Elementary.
Improving road safety and neighborhood aesthetics is a top priority for the Subcommittee, and the project is expected to make the area safer for pedestrians and motorists.
According to research, street art and traffic calming measures can effectively contribute to reducing road accidents and enhancing road safety."It's extremely important that we continue to enhance the safety for the youth and families of East Tampa, through Public Safety initiatives we ensure our roads are safer providing a true Quality of Life for all residents"- said Councilwoman Gwendolyn Henderson. " Let's continue to work together to make our East Tampa streets safer.
The East Tampa CRA, along with its community partners, invites the public to join them in the installation of the crosswalk mural on May 13, 2023, from 10AM to 2PM, at the intersection of 34th Street and Cayuga Street. The event promises to be a fun-filled day with music, community fellowship, and the opportunity to contribute to creating a safer and more vibrant neighborhood.
