Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a motor vehicle incident located on I-275 southbound at the Broad St. overpass. Truck 13 arrived first on scene and reported one box truck on its side with flames coming from the engine compartment. Two other vehicles were involved with major damage, one overturned. The fire was quickly extinguished and one occupant was extricated from a vehicle. All other vehicle occupants were out upon our arrival.
The box truck was carrying multiple gallons of vegetable oil, which spilled onto the highway. Due to the nature of the incident, additional resources were called to assist with removal.
I-275 traffic was shut down in the southbound direction from Busch Blvd. to Sligh Ave.
There were no injuries to firefighters. One patient was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol will be conducting the traffic investigation.
