USF Men’s Soccer Gets Ready for No. 24 North Carolina on Sunday

After a scoreless tie in the season-opener on Thursday against Florida Gulf Coast at Corbett Stadium, the University of South Florida men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. for the first of two-straight road matches when it battles preseason No. 24-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill at Dorrance Field. The match can be seen live on ACC Network Extra. The Bulls will close out the short two-match stretch away from home on Sept. 2 at 8:05 p.m. ET at Marquette.

Sunday's tilt is also the first of two Top 25 foes that South Florida will face in its next three matches. Following their match against Marquette next week, the Bulls will return home to Corbett Stadium to take on preseason No. 3/2-ranked, and 2021 College Cup Runner-up, Washington on Sept. 6.

THE SERIES VS. NORTH CAROLINA

- South Florida and North Carolina meet for the eighth time with the series knotted at 3-3 with one tie thrown in ... The Bulls won the first three matches in the series on Oct. 21, 1967 (3-1) and on Nov. 5, 1971 (4-1) in Chapel Hill, and on Oct. 12, 1982 (2-1) at a neutral site in Tampa.

- After the lone tie in the series, a 1-1 draw on Oct. 12, 1984, in Tampa, the Tar Heels have taken the last three contests - outscoring the Bulls 9-0 - on Sept. 4, 1987 (3-0), Oct. 14, 2001 (5-0) and Nov. 21, 2013 (1-0) in the NCAA Tournament First Round.

A LOOK AT THE TAR HEALS

- North Carolina is coming off a 2-1 win over Air Force in its regular season-opener on Thursday night ... The Tar Heels play their first five matches at home before facing rival Duke on the road on Sept. 16.

LAST TIME OUT

- After a two-hour and 43-minute weather delay South Florida finally had the opportunity to kick off its regular season on Thursday against FGCU however had to settle for a scoreless draw following a physical defensive battle.

- Both teams combined for 25 fouls and 20 yellow cards while only totaling 17 shots for the 90-minute match.

- In a tale of two halves, FGCU controlled the first 45 minutes outshooting the Bulls 6-2, including a 3-0 margin in shots on goal ... South Florida came back in the second half and dominated offensively with eight shots while only holding the Eagles to one shot in the final 45.

- USF had their best opportunity to put the match away in the final 90 seconds with an offensive onslaught ... Takeru Moriyama fired an offering that sent the FGCU keeper diving for a game-saving save in the 89' ... Twenty seconds later, Moriyama's countryman, Shion Soga sent in a shot that went just wide left of the goal ... After back-to-back corner kicks just three seconds apart Oscar Resano wound up and fired a laser that went wide right seconds before the final whistle sounded.

A LOOK AHEAD

- South Florida will close out the short two-match stretch on Friday, Sept. 2 when it travels to Milwaukee, Wis. to take on Marquette ... Kickoff is slated for 8:05 p.m. ET.
