UT to Host Award-Winning Student Work From the 2022 Hillsborough County Region Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

The University of Tampa issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.

In partnership with the Hillsborough Education Foundation (HEF) and Hillsborough County Public Schools, The University of Tampa’s Scarfone/Hartley Gallery is hosting the 2022 Hillsborough County Region Scholastic Art and Writing Exhibition presented by Suncoast Credit Union. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public and the media, will feature art and writing pieces by local middle and high school students from Tuesday, March 1, through Friday, March 25.

This year, there were more than 1,200 student submissions, and the regional judges narrowed them down to 232 art awards and 95 writing awards. Pieces that win the Gold Key award will be submitted to the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers in New York City, where students will have the opportunity to compete at the national level and be recognized in a ceremony this summer.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, established in 1923, is the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the United States and is the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers.

Established in 1987, HEF is a nonprofit focused on strengthening public education by supporting teachers and empowering students to achieve academic and personal success. Together with community partners, HEF strategically invests in initiatives that impact teaching quality, increase graduation rates and build equity in education — bolstering a thriving workforce of tomorrow and the sustainable prosperity of Tampa Bay. UT’s Scarfone/Hartley Gallery will have special hours during the exhibition to provide more time to visit the exhibition. Updated hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 1-4 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is located on campus at the R.K. Bailey Art Studios at 310 N. Blvd.
