Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus is Seeking Local Artist to Commission Campus Mural

Education

Hillsborough Community College issued the following announcement on Dec. 17.

Hillsborough Community College’s Grounds4Art@HCC public art program is seeking a local artist to commission an outdoor mural on the Ybor City Campus. The mural will serve to thematically connect the academic pathways and achievements of students, as well as thoughtfully integrate the unique history and culture of Ybor City.

Professional artists based in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk or Manatee County with experience working in public spaces are especially encouraged to apply.

The project is to be completed in the spring 2022 term, during late March to April.

The selected artist will receive a $20,000 budget to cover all expenses such as design, fabrication, materials, installation, programming, etc. Three finalists will receive a stipend of $500 for a professional design proposal.

As part of the project’s educational scope, the commissioned artist for the mural will be asked to participate in a public program associated with the mural (e.g., workshop, ribbon-cutting ceremony or lecture) and to directly involve a small group of volunteers over the course of the mural’s fabrication (if COVID-19 restrictions allow).

Interested artists can apply here; all submission forms must be received by January 17, 2022. An Art Selection Committee, comprised of HCC faculty, deans and staff, will conduct a review of the forms submitted.
